Lim xẹt (Peltophorum pterocarpum) là loài cây thay lá thường được trồng với mục đích làm cảnh. Cây có thể đạt chiều cao lên tới 35 mét với tán lá rộng hình chiếc dù. Loài cây lâu năm này ưa thích môi trường sống tại các khu rừng ven biển, rừng ngập mặn và bãi cát; có nguồn gốc từ Đông Nam Á và Bắc Australasia, bao gồm Úc, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thái Lan và Việt Nam [1].
Tại Sơn Trà, hoa Lim xẹt bắt đầu nở rộ vào cuối tháng Ba và kéo dài đến khoảng giữa hoặc cuối tháng Tư hằng năm. Sắc vàng rực rỡ điểm xuyết trên nền xanh ngắt đặc trưng của bán đảo tạo nên một khung cảnh nổi bật. Mùa hoa nở chính là lời mời gọi khó cưỡng đối với mọi du khách, đặc biệt là các nhiếp ảnh gia động vật hoang dã và những người yêu du lịch, đến để thưởng ngoạn và lưu lại những khung hình quý giá [2].
